[Maced] External HD

I am currently looking at getting an external hard drive to do my  
Time Machine backups. Officeworks have a Western Digital 1TB  
Essentials 3.5 Hard Drive USB 2.0 drive for $299. Has anyone had any  
experience with these or suggest an alternative. Had a little scare  
this morning. Thought I had lost a bit of data, so I want to get this  
up and running asap.
