[Maced] External HD

Dear John

Over the years, I've not had much luck with Western Digital (even the
ones Apple purchased). I tend to use Seagate drives (5 year warranty
- but not when they are placed inside "some other brand of hard drive
case" when the warranty drops to 1 year - maybe 2). The USB 2.0
seems to be the rage at OfficeWorks for the PC but we can run FireWire
400 and in many cases FireWire 800 (you'll probably want to reformat
it Mac style as it tends to be some Windows NT format).

So that means a "all in one box with the lot" - something like a La
Cie - a bit more expensive but at least you have USB 2 and the
FireWires (and often eSATA). More flexible and FireWire 800 if you
have lots to back up in a day is certainly fast. Very fast.

However, if time isn't an issue USB-2 drives work. I'm currently
having issues with a person who has a Maxtor (which is a Seagate
company) drive which is USB -2. It keeps saying "this volume is
locked" - even after I reformatted it. Something wrong there!

Regards
