[Maced] Dreamweaver 8 - OS X Leopard

Hi David et.al

Interesting. In a past scenario installation of Tiger and DW 2004 same
issue. Took us 10 months to overcome the problem. We exceeded 7+ mins for
startup. Got so bad that we had students do a ŒMexican Roll¹ to open it. If
all tried at once it could take 15-20 mins to open. On staggered start up we
got it to a much shorter start but it had to roll around a whole group and
so some would have to wait up to 10mins for their turn. It nearly sent me to
the grave.

Solution? I am vague on the technicalities of it as it passed my technical
understanding but I know it was related to a switch issue and I think this
was to do with setting the speed of the switch to match that of the server.
Do switches have to make an adjustment to deal with Leopard?

Another possible solution: Have users try this when DW hangs on start up
hold mouse on DW icon in dock and select Quit or Force Quit (whichever is
offered) and let it Quit (even though it does not appear to have started)
and then click icon again and see if it starts now. Still using DW 2004 with
Tiger but this works for us many times on a hung startup.

Another option: Have these users set DW to open on login. They should start
their computer and then go away for a cup of coffee or deal with 20 issues
and then when they get back to it it will be open. I do this with Photoshop
every day. Doesn¹t take 7+mins but takes a while and is done when I return.
It¹s a work-around. If these are isolated teacher users with other things to
do in life this will work. If they are a whole class of students it won¹t.
In that case revert to above.

My sympathies.
