Could be a driver problem, but....
Maybe a software update will do the trick? Installed Parallels and XP on my T4L Macbook a little while back. I find that Windoze Update is blocked at school (I guess all the boxes are pointed to DET WSUS servers) so I have to run it at home. Not a good solution for your bolted-down iMacs tho’ :)
You’ll find an installer for the latest version of WMP here:

Maybe uninstall the old version WMP before trying this install (Control Panel – Add Remove Programs)? Hope this helps.
Upfront I'll state I am by no means an expert at any of this, but a thought is have you tried some external speakers?
Neither of them will play DVDs properly. On one Media player says it needs to close, but on the other and more important DVDs play video but not audio. The hardware works fine booted as Mac. Why don't we reboot? The user is a windows person and doesn't like changing stuff largely to do with early versions of SMART IWB for mac being rubbish. Any ideas how I can get him some sound? I can't see any obvious settings wrong, but it's got to be pretty obvious for me to know in Windoze. Plug and P(unplug and try again)lay.
